NATURE TRAILS AND BOARDWALKS

Over 1,000 feet of boardwalk entwined through the edge of the Okefenokee wetlands separate Obediah's log cabin and wilderness homestead from the parking area and modern civilization. As you enter the park you first have to stroll down the winding, seeming-to-never-end, man-made passage that reaches back into time about 130 years or so. Enjoyed by birdwatchers, hikers, nature lovers and photographers, year round visitation to the park reveals many new and mysterious sights.

Trails and boardwalks are open to visitors everyday during our regular business hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The "Nature Walk" and "Wildlife Refuge" is accessible by foot only, and it is recommended that comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots be worn. All visitors are welcomed to enjoy the natural wonders of our swampland, but it is required that hikers be 16 years old or accompanied by a person of that age or older.

Obediah's Wildlife Refuge accommodates many wild animals and birds that enter the area frequently. Feeding plots, watering stations and bird houses are placed throughout the trails. Removal and/or destruction of these areas, plants, trees, or wildlife is strictly prohibited. Rest stops are also placed for your convenience along the way. Directional signage and plant identifications dot the path, and approximately 35 to 45 minutes should be allowed for the 1 mile hike before closing time at 5 p.m.

400 feet of boardwalk now leads into new animal exhibit areas, where many species of wildlife can be observed close up. Footpaths and grassy terrains are trekked through the majority of the park touring.

*Seasonally Wet. Weather conditions can alter trail accessibility.
